The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant - Ellie Goes Back To School

The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant - Ellie Goes Back To School - Elle Fair, Nelly Murariu, Marci Fair To be honest, initially I wasn’t a fan of the ‘real life’ pictures of the stuffed animals attending an actual school. It came off as kind of cheesy and not appealing. However, the more I thought about it, I saw the possible reasoning behind it, and I began to actually like it. By not showing any humans in this book at all, the Fair duo perfectly enable kids to insert themselves into the story and/or take away the stress of this being a ‘teaching’ book, by making it simply a silly story about animals going to school, too.

As for its purpose of soothing fears about going to school, Ellie Goes Back to School does exactly what it sets out to do. It walks kids through a basic day at school, showing them real-world classroom surroundings, and introducing them to basic activities that they might do while in class. The tone of the book is very upbeat, and some of the pictures are definitely cute and silly.

Definitely a cute little book, and well-deserving of a place on your child’s bookshelf.
