Monsterland

Monsterland - Michael Okon While definitely better than a couple of books I’ve read lately, Monsterland failed to thrill me. Its definitely not scary or even creepy, so I don’t think it really needs to be in the Horror category. I think whoever classified it just stuck it there because it has zombies, werewolves, and vampires.

The plot’s a bit cliche. A group of teenagers get invited to the grand opening of Monsterland. Of course, its the grand opening of a major theme park, so you know things are going to go horribly wrong. After the crap hits the fan, its non-stop action, world-domination plans, occasional inquiries about defining humanity, and the requisite last minute plot twist, etc, etc.

I will say that his take on werewolves, vampires, and zombies, while not completely original was mildly refreshing. Eh, it was a good enough read that it doesn’t fall into the “meh” category, but not good enough I’ll go around recommending it to my friends to read. I do want to add that the other works I’ve read by this author are much better.
